the day from hell!!!!

I woke up to pouring down rain and later on thunder, and lightning. it had to go to class and so i got ready and went down to the tram stop. I soon realized that all the trams were stopped and empty on the side of the road. greattt...so i then jumped on the bus and the doors closed. we moved about a foot and were at a dead stop. here they dont let you get on or off unless you are at a bus stop so i begged the driver to let me get off and he said "NO! you must wait untill stop!" i contemplated prying the doors open and making a run for it. I had 10 min until class started and i had heard that the 2 biggest no nos are missing class and being late. perfecto. the bus driver finally let me off and i made a run for it...let me tell you that wet cobblestone is not your friend. i slipped and slid into class. heard a bunch of italian, smiled and nodded for two hours and left class and went on a journey to go get my books. We took the tram for a while and then got off and walked what seemed like forever and finallyyyyy found the book store. the rain let up so it wasnt so bad. i paid 4 bazillion euro for my italian books and then went on another fun journey to the store that sold notebooks and pens - you would be very surprised how hard it is to find pen and paper. you can but shoes and pizza all day long on every street...but you try and buy a pen and a pad of paper and you are out of luck. we walked and walked and walked and finally got to the store. we bought our 5 euro pen and 20 euro notebook and were ready to rock. we walk outside with all of our bags and it started to POUR. of course i didnt think to bring and umbrella or rain coat to rome bc rome is always sunny and perfect and they dont have clouds in rome...i wish. we ran to the tram stop and blindly hopped on a tram. thank goodness we were on our way home. ...not... i look up and see a big man in a suit and tie and he looks at me and says "ticket" ...at about that time i remembered that i never bought my tram ticked because i didnt ride the tram that morning. i tried to weasle my way out of it but he wasnt charmed by my batting eyelashes and fake smile. he made us get up and off the tram at the next stop, him and all of his "friends" walked me to the atm as i withdrew 50 euros as my fine for not buying my 1 euro tram ticket. could this day get any worse? the answer is yes! it can! i bought a ticket, squeezed my sopping self on to the over crowded tram and was trying to catch my breath and thoughts as a girl who looked about my age slipped her sneaky little hand into my backpack. i turned around as her arm was completely in my bag. i looked at the pocket that she had completely unzipped and thank goodness i hadnt put anything in that part. i attempted to pierce her soul with my eyes. i then realized she obviously didnt have a soul. i loudly told Sallie that the thief was trying to steal from me and to hold on to her bag tightly. the girl who was stealing didnt even blink, she was a pro and it was really eerie. she was wearing a north face jacket and listning to an ipod and is the last person that i would pick out to be a pick pocket. we got out of the tram cursing the city and decided that we were going on strike as italian loving american tourists and said we were going to mcdonalds for dinner. we went up to the apartment, put on dry clothes, and waited untill the rain stopped. we then set out for those glorious golden arches. we heard angels singing as we walked in the doors. we got our cheeseburgers and strawberry milkshakes (in spite of gelato) and headed back to the apt. as we were walking we saw a huge bolt of lightning and thought to my self...crap, they have lightning in rome too...before i could process what comes after lightning i was drenced. sallie and i looked at each other and just started laughing. we ran back to the apartment laughing the whole way. sat down at the table without even stopping to dry off. opened our soggy bags, ate our soggy burgers, and cherished every soggy bite.

that was the day from hell & looking back it is halarious and i wouldnt take back a single thing...except maybe my 50 euros... :)

this weekend sallie and i are going to the island of Elba-its and island off the coast of Tuscany and it is where Napolean was exiled. its supposed to have beautiful beaches and mountains as well. hopefully it will stop raining!!

Hope everyone is well and enjoying my blog! love love love you all

p.s. i did my laundry yesterday and the wash cycle took over 4 hours to finish-and theres no dryer haha

p.s.s. im reading 2 AMAZING books
1. Eat, Pray, Love
2. The Witch of Portebello
they are so good and i highly suggest them, with The Witch of Portebello you have to read about 60 pages but after that its impossible to put down

I'm sorry everything was so wretched but I'm glad you found the humor in it all. I would of flipped if I caught someone trying to pick-pocket me. Keep a look out!

Well, I guess I need to be sure to bring an umbrella with me; good to know. I hope this weekend is full of sunshine for you and Sallie!

Miss you! **LOVE**

A rainy day in Rome - what an exciting adventure. How dare that ticket tacker not letting you ride free! It was great you was laughing at the end of the day - even though you had to eat soggy cheeseburgers. You are making memories that will stay with you a life time. Opa and I look foward to a new chapter tomorrow.
our love always and God bless, Oma
